YWCA Cambridge hosting Women of Distinction awards gala after 2-year hiatus due to COVID-19

As your two friendly neighbourhood feminists, we’ve talked a lot about how the pandemic has disproportionately impacted women.

In fact, a lot of people have been pointing this out, from the uneven distribution of unpaid care work responsibilities resulting from school and child care closures to the even more skewed impact of business closures on women workers in service and personal care jobs and the increased pressures and risks faced by the women-dominated care work jobs. 

It’s been a rough ride for all of us these last two years, but particularly for these women who make up a significant portion of our population.

But things are finally starting to look up and, with International Women’s Day just around the corner; we want to talk about something joyous and celebratory.

YWCA Cambridge has decided to host its annual Women of Distinction awards gala once again after a two-year hiatus. This year, the awards gala theme will be “Courage In COVID,” with award categories explicitly aimed at highlighting and celebrating the resilience, tenacity and bravery of the women who carried us through the last two years.
