Since the early days of the pandemic, when it was clear that women were being the most impacted, people from across the country began calling for a feminist economic recovery. In October 2020, Feminist Shift hosted a panel discussion on what this kind of recovery could look like locally, building on the brilliant road map for this work developed by YWCA Canada and the Institute for Gender and the Economy (GATE) of the Rotman School of Management. The premise is simple: the pandemic is causing the greatest chaos for women and so recovery efforts must specifically address these gendered impacts.

Post-election, we’ve elected a self-proclaimed feminist government, but will this proclamation turn into action? Here are the five pressing areas related to a feminist recovery that Feminist Shift is paying attention to for the early days of this new government…
